Last week I wrote an article called My Journey to 100 Push-ups: The Beginning.
In that article I outlined a challenge I set myself: to complete 100 consecutive push-ups in 6 to 7 weeks time.
To achieve that lofty goal I’m going to use an android app on my phone called 100 Pushups by ShvagerFM.
I’m going to start at program 1 and work my way through to program 12.
By the end of program 12 I should be in good shape to reach my goal.
This article is the first in a series of articles that I’m going to publish to document my progress.
Program 1 Overview
Today I hit my first milestone and completed program 1.
All up, over the 5 days of the program, I completed a sum total of 130 push-ups.
Here is a breakdown of the number of push-ups that I completed each ‘day’ on the program:
The app rules state that after 2 consecutive days of training you should take a 48-hour break.
I didn’t find these push-up numbers too challenging so I only took a one-day break after 3 consecutive days of training.
Here is a summary of the days I completed each ‘day’ of the program:
- Monday 18/09/17: Program 1 Day 1 (12 push-ups total).
- Tuesday 19/09/17: Program 1 Day 2 (16 push-ups total).
- Wednesday 20/09/17: Program 1 Day 3 (22 push-ups total).
- Thursday 21/09/17: Break
- Friday 22/09/17: Program 1 Day 4 (25 push-ups total).
- Saturday 23/09/17: Program 1 Day 5 (26 push-ups total).
- Sunday 24/09/17: Program 1 Day 6 (29 push-ups total).
Overall Thoughts
Overall I’m happy with my progress for program 1.
This is the perfect program if you are a beginner and want to get stronger at doing push-ups.
After doing the prescribed number of push-ups in the orange circle you get 1 minute of rest before you attempt the next set.
This rest time is more than enough to get you ready for the next round.
For someone that trains regularly at the gym and has a good base level of strength you can skip this program.
Instead follow the app guidelines to select a starting program based on your maximum number of push-ups.
I was still doing my regular gym training on days that I attempted this program but I didn’t find the number of push-ups per round too challenging.
No doubt some of the later programs won’t be so easy so I’m going to enjoy this moment while it lasts.
I’m going to take a two day break and commence program 2 on Wednesday 27/09/17.
Stay tuned for my next update after I complete program 2.
Until then,
Stand tall, be proud of your height and strive for greatness.
